The Journal Of Antiquities

Ancient Sites In Great Britain & Southern Ireland

About The Journal of Antiquities

Hello and welcome to my blog called ‘The Journal of Antiquities’. I hope you will be able to come along on this journey around the British Isles including Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and join in looking at some of the antiquities that we treasure – there are thousands of sites, but I will try to look at as many as possible. But I won’t waste time by giving great amounts of detail – I will cut to the bone as they say and say just what is needed. A grid reference, site position, and some detail about each site. However, some of the more well-known sites may need a bit more information, so I will try my best to provide that. I will also display photos or drawings etc of each site where it is possible. Comments are very welcome but, this is not a social networking site, and so comments will need to be kept short and, also “friendly”. Thanks.

The journal will include the following:- Prehistoric, Celtic, Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Medieval sites but, also I will put some more recent curiousities on the blog, as well. Included on here will be burial chambers, standing stones, stone circles, inscribed stones, ancient crosses, holy wells/springs, ancient churches, hillforts, earthworks, rock-art, glacial erratics and other stuff ! Oh, and myths, legends and folklore, too.

So, once again please come along on the journey and enjoy reading the blog.

[Comments]

You can now put comments on again. Please do not post advertisments as they will only be deleted, unless they are of particular interest to this blog site. Any repeat comments will also be deleted. Thank you.

[Errors]

There may be a few spelling mistakes and other errors in some of the posts. I am trying to spot these and put them right. So please be patient. I am doing my best. Thank you.

Further Afield !

I am hoping to start putting a few sites on from further afield, shortly. These may include ancient sites in France, and maybe one or two other European countries. So watch this space!

Also, you can now find ‘The Journal of Antiquities’ on Facebook!
